Contracciones del verbo «to be» en presente / Abbreviated ways to conjugate «to be» in present tense
Ya vimos cómo se conjuga en presente el verbo «to be» en forma afirmativa. Ahora veamos cómo unir el verbo con el sujeto, sustituyendo la primera letra del verbo por un apóstrofe.
De esta forma:

| he is | he’s | He’s an electrician. Él es un electricista. |
| she is | she’s | She’s really intelligent. Ella es muy inteligente. |
| it is | it’s | It’s a blue house. Es una casa azul. |
| we are | we’re | We’re from Monterrey. Somos de Monterrey. |
| you are | you’re | You’re at school. Ustedes están en la escuela. |
| they are | they’re | They’re John and Alice. Ellos son John y Alice. |
También podemos contraer «is» con el sujeto cuando éste
es un nombre propio.
Por ejemplo:
Pablo’s at home. = Pablo is at home.
Pablo está en casa.
Corina’s your sister. = Corina is your sister.
Corina es tu hermana.
