«Here» (aquí, acá) y «there» (allí, allá, ahí) son dos adverbios de lugar.
«Here» se utiliza cuando indicamos que algo está cerca del hablante, o bien un lugar próximo a él:
Por ejemplo:
Come here!
¡Ven aquí!
I work here.
Trabajo aquí.
Is there a police station near here?
¿Hay una estación de policía cerca de aquí?
«There» se usa cuando indicamos que algo está retirado o alejado del hablante, o bien un lugar distante de él:
I went to Bogota because my mother lives there.
Fui a Bogotá porque mi madre vive allí.
The pen is there, near the phone.
El bolígrafo está allí, cerca del teléfono.
En muchos casos estos adverbios aparecen en otras expresiones:
My house is right here.
Mi casa está aquí mismo.
You can buy tickets right there.
Puedes comprar boletos allí mismo.
I left my gloves over here.
Dejé mis guantes por aquí.
There’s an agent waiting for you over there.
Hay un agente esperándote por allí.
There is another sandwich place up here.
Hay otro restaurante de sandwiches aquí arriba.
The conference room is up there.
La sala de conferencias está allá arriba.
The pool is down here.
La piscina está aquí abajo.
I can see my car down there.
Puedo ver mi auto allá abajo.
